Iloilo-based Satren‘s creator hails from a family that has been running a famous La Paz batchoy joint, once close to a train station in the La Paz district of Iloilo City, for several decades. Wanting to create another brand that Ilonggos can be proud of, just like his lolo (grandfather) did over 70 years ago, he created a line of handmade shoes that allow women to walk in comfort while looking classy in statement-making footwear, with a name that calls back his lolo‘s business, “sa tren.” He gifted his wife his first pair: embroidered mules designed with La Paz batchoy, of course.

Satren has since been known locally for their colorful and stylish embroidered mules (PHP4,200) made of abaca fabric. The beautiful Teespina mules in particular use Hablon, a handwoven textile from Iloilo, that can take your look from casual to modern Filipiniana. Other bestsellers include their Pony Sandals, espadrilles (PHP4,200), and wedges (PHP4,200). To order, you can message them your preferred style and size on Instagram or Facebook.

If you’re ever in Iloilo, visit the flagship Satren Studio at Room C 2F DMS Building, E. Lopez cor. Jalandoni Streets, Jaro, Iloilo City. Otherwise, constantly check their social pages for schedules of bazaars and shopping events that they participate in around the country. (With reports from Trixie Reyna)
